I just finished a commissioned 3-piece bird/tree painting. I used blues, browns, and lots of metallic colors: gold, copper, and bronze. The large splotches of what appears to be yellow and orange are really gold and copper--in person, when the lights hit the canvases, I can see the shimmer of the metallic paints. A friend asked me to paint her daughter and fiance so that she could give it to them during their wedding shower.  What a unique wedding gift! Found out last night that my tree painting "Only the Beginning" will soon be displayed on one of the walls in The Brick House Grill in Spencer's Corner in downtown Hot Springs, Arkansas.  I still remember eating there for my first time years ago.  The food is delicious and the atmosphere is delightful.  I love the historic district of Hot Springs. This is a large, very textured painting. In the foundation layer, I added swirly pieces of modern, "hairy" yarn. On the tree, added lots of tiny glass beads to the paint. On the branches, there are tiny metallic green leaves which I repeated the shape toward the outside of the painting for repetition. This is Bambi, a very much loved and missed Chihuahua dog who passed away.  Bambi's owner (Cynthia) asked me to paint her.  Then this painting was given to Cynthia's husband as a surprise birthday present to the one who misses Bambi most.   R.I.P.

I painted a portrait as a gift for a family friend who is currently teaching kids to hip-hop dance.  His dance team is called "Ignition" and I incorporated that name into the composition.

Here is a closeup that I angled into the sunlight to show the texture on the branches and birds and also to show that what looks like orange and yellow in the entire painting, is really bronze and gold metallic.  Metallics are so hard to capture on camera.  I've also captured several different angles, hoping to reveal the true look of this new piece.

The tree is extremely textured--I believe more than any of the other "tree" paintings I have done thus far. The texture was made by adding tiny glass beads to acrylic paint and using a technique of rolling my brush so that the mixture would be applied in thick, random lines to mimick bark. I have to admit, everytime I have passed by the painting this week, I've been so drawn to the texture,

Paul Eells..."Oh My!" Last night, on April 6, 2009, a print of Paul Eells, by artist Amy Kopp, was auctioned for $300, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Proceeds from all donated, auctioned artwork went to the Humane Society of Garland County in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

The three similar pieces are watercolor and ink on acid free paper, in frames with a beveled glass backing that shows through. The fourth piece is also watercolor and ink on acid free paper. The glass frame also is a bud vase (on the left side). I used dark brown ink, and various shades of blue watercolor for the backgrounds. This is a pop art portrait I did of my step son, Spencer. In small print, I also painted the entire chapter of Psalm 91. Spencer asked me to put the whole chapter in this painting, so I had to get creative at how to do that yet still have an attractive composition. The chapter ends in the center of his guitar. Here you can see the words, "prophetic worship." Spencer plays the guitar and sings.

I created this watercolor and ink painting yesterday (7-5-08).  It is a Jewish man wearing a tallite and blowing a shofar.  These words are surrounding him, "Blow the trumpet in Zion, sound the alarm in my holy mountain," "He is coming," and "The King is coming."  In the lower right corner, I drew a cross with abstract figures with their hands raised to heaven.

These two paintings and one charcoal sketch were created from my love for cats.  This love began as a child when I received my very first cat, Chester.  The instruction from Dad was that I could have ONE cat only and it would have to be a male.  Much to everyone's surprise, a few months later "Chester" became "Chessie" when "he" had kittens...
